An $11 million Recreation and Fitness Center that is expected to open on FAU’s Boca Raton campus in January will create many jobs for students, staff and alumni.

“The Department of Campus and Recreation will be recruiting motivated, hard-working, ambitious, reliable and friendly students," said Terry Mena, associate dean of students. "These employment opportunities are strictly for those seeking employment for the coming spring semester.”

To be eligible for the positions, applicants must attend a campus recreation employee recruitment session. The next one will be held Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Arena classroom.

The available positions are posted on the university Web site, www.FAU.edu/campusrec. They include: personal trainers, group fitness instructors, office assistants, fitness center hosts, area reception desk hosts, lifeguards and intramural sports officials.

“The new fitness center will have more than 40 pieces of cardio equipment, two circuit training units, plus a free weight area and stretching area," said Michelle Perkins, associate director of student development and activities. "The center also will have health club-style locker rooms and a multi- purpose gymnasium."

The 38,100-square-foot facility also will include two indoor courts for volleyball or basketball, a leisure pool, a lounge and food service. The center will be situated off Lee Street near the north end of the Breezeway.
